Welcome to Official site of Ananda Chandra College of Commerce

Dear Students,
It is my pride and privilege to write some words as the Teacher-in-Charge of the College at the flag end of my service career that was started on 1st December' 1989. In this long journey of about 26 years in this College I have a lot of memories that bring pleasures and pains – frustration and happiness. But one thing is true and brings pleasure is to be in Jalpaiguri which is heavenly blessed with flora and fauna and a loving environment quite different from that of South Bengal.
I am the last person who has seen, worked and got privilege of being one of those big personalities who were with the institute from the budding days. It is a great memory which will remain green so long I remain alive. Great changes happened in the global environment due to rapid entry of IT, internet and Computer at one hand and recession on the other. Business and Commerce environment totally undulated and the traditional concept of Commerce faced a havoc change as such commerce students with traditional commerce knowledge got shaky in the job market. Commerce Education lost its glory and glamour particularly in West Bengal. The weave shocked our college that resulted in declining enrolment of students. A great demand came from all corners that the College should introduce Arts to enhance the scope and demand for higher education of Arts. Finally Arts stream has been introduced in 2014 and Honours in Bengali and in English introduced this year 2015.
I am pleased to think that the College is now running in full swing—students' enrolment has shot up but simultaneously the college is facing number of problems. The residential building called Alima Manjil centrally built up in a land area of 1.05 acre, got renovated and remodeled to accommodated classes for only Commerce students since the 70's is now welcoming a large consignment of students of arts and Commerce in the premises. No such spectacular enhancement is there in relation to modern teaching-learning facilities like big classrooms, Smart Classrooms, Auditorium, Gymnasium, Computer Room, Audio-visual section, play grounds, Hostel for girls and boys, Guest room etc. It is troublesome to accommodate all classes of Commerce and Arts. Somehow this year (2015) the problem is managed but in the coming year (2016) when another set of new entrants will be admitted the problem will be unmanageable. Hope that appropriate steps will be immediately initiated.
Another big issue is that the College is admitting large number of students of Arts without having any new post created and teacher recruited. A group of young, energetic and duly qualified fresher in consideration of merely Rs.250 is taking classes.
In my short tenure since September'15 I have duly conveyed all these pros and cons to the appropriate authorities in proper terms and ways.
Another big problem is assessment and accreditation of the Institute by the NAAC. The process had been started in 2002 by the then Principal of the College, Dr. Paritosh Biswas but could not complete the process. Thereafter the process was thought different persons differently but no remarkable progress was there till July '15. Then the College received an ultimatum from the UGC to derecognize the institute on the failure to apply for assessment and accreditation by the NAAC by 31st December'15. It is a tremendous task and I solicit cooperation and help from all concerns including existing teachers, staff, ex-teachers, students, and alumni.
Out of all such inconveniences our students sincerely are trying to keep the college environment peaceful, working positively for its development. I am stopping my pen with the hope that the Government, the Governing Body of the College and the full fledged Principal(when will be appointed) will actively show interest to solve all these problems to restore its glory what was in the days of 70s, 80s and 90s.

    Wishing you all the best.

Dr. Sunil Kumar Jana
